Take a walk down DUMBO's cobblestone block streets today and you can still see remnants of this industrial neighborhood's busy past: large 19th century warehouses amongst modern buildings and condominiums; rails for the local trams that once serviced the factories still cross several of the neighborhood's streets; and the "Fulton Landing" (now referred to as "Fulton Ferry" Landing) - a bustling waterfront area, although the crowds now congregate here to eat delicious homemade ice cream cones from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (2 Old Fulton Street) and enjoy the dynamic views of the East River over to Downtown Manhattan.
In DUMBO is now the premier office location Brooklyn, hosting the entire range of modern creative tenants, lawyers, and business services occupying fully restored early 20th Century factory buildings. A top residential community of condominiums and rentals, DUMBO's food choices range from French sandwiches, burritos, handmade chocolates, locally-sourced greens and grains to some of the best Brooklyn pizza and burgers.
Successful artists still lease loft spaces in DUMBO, as do dozens of architects, graphic designers and web developers working in open plan spaces. Four of the boroughs largest law firms call the area home as well. The most concentrated cultural community in boroughs, DUMBO boasts two dozen art exhibition spaces, performance spaces like White Wave, and St. Ann's Warehouse, as well as small off-beat spaces showing the newest cultural offerings.
