Take a walk down DUMBO's cobblestone block streets today and you can still see remnants of this industrial neighborhood's busy past: large 19th century warehouses amongst modern buildings and condominiums; rails for the local trams that once serviced the factories still cross several of the neighborhood's streets; and the "Fulton Landing" (now referred to as "Fulton Ferry" Landing) - a bustling waterfront area, although the crowds now congregate here to eat delicious homemade ice cream cones from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (2 Old Fulton Street) and enjoy the dynamic views of the East River over to Downtown Manhattan.
In recent years, DUMBO has become a creative hotspot. The charming warehouses and industrial manufacturing spaces of the past keep the artists, photographers, designers, and other members of the creative community, while successful creatives, media folks and financiers buy up all the latest condominiums.
In DUMBO, you can find woodworkers taking advantage of large lofts to craft their unique pieces, while advertisers and designers fill workspaces throughout the neighborhood. Turn any corner and you're likely to bump into a gallery or clothing boutique or come across a theatrical performance, concert or or fashion show. And thanks to DUMBO's old architecture and views of both the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline, hundreds of movies and TV shows have also been filmed here, including The Sopranos and Sex & the City.
